The most important aspect of Bible reading/study is prayer. Before opening the Bible ask the HOLY SPIRIT to guide your reading/study. Make it your purpose to get closer to GOD. If it all possible refrain from debating the Bible.
A very good way to approach the Bible is to realize that it is GOD's love letter to us.
If you are wanting to just read the Bible but don't have a translation that you enjoy reading there are many versions on line. You can google "on line Bibles."
Check out the New Living Translation, The Message, Today's English Version (commonly called the Good News Bible)
If you haven't been reading the Bible start with the Gospel of John.
